Eat Sustainbly recommended
Our rating
Pros
- This product is high in probiotics, which are strains of live bacteria that help maintain a natural and healthy balance of microbiome in your gut
- This product is minimally processed and only contains two ingredients - fresh milk and cultures
- Made from cow's milk, this product is high in calcium, vitamin B12, protein and other nutrients
- This product tastes like a runny natural yoghurt. It's a delicious alternative to yoghurt and milk on cereal, or in smoothies
- This product is made of 100% Australian ingredients, so has low food miles
- Vegetarian friendly & gluten free
Cons
- Cow's milk is inherently a high greenhouse gas emitting food, so if consuming this kefir, we encourage you to eat it with plant-based foods, such as oats, wholegrain cereals or chia seeds, to reduce the overall environmental impact of the meal
- The plastic packaging is a con as it contains plastic chemicals. Always recycle!
Summary
Although this product only scored 3/5 stars, we highly recommend it as the pros far outweigh the cons. Regularly drinking kefir is a great replacement to probiotic supplements (if you take them) as there are many other health benefits provided by the kefir, and it is not highly processed like supplements.
Slowly introducing kefir into your kids diets (e.g. on cereal or in smoothies) can increase their intake of probiotics to support good gut health. If your kids prefer something sweeter, we encourage you to add fresh fruit or locally sourced unprocessed honey.
