Kids recess ideas

There are a wide range of eco-friendly foods that are suitable for lunchboxes. They don’t need to be new, unfamiliar, or take a long time to prepare.

When packing your child’s lunchbox, include foods they are familiar with. If we pack new foods in the lunchbox, they are likely to get ignored and forgotten about - this contributes to food waste and is not the best learning experience for our kids. This might mean that your child is left feeling hungry because there weren’t enough other options (also not the best learning experience).

We suggest offering new foods in the home first, with no pressure to eat them. Offering new foods to your kids alongside a ‘safe’ food that you know they will eat can be a good thing to do before putting it in their lunchbox for the first time.
