Seasonal fruit vegetables

Farmers markets are great if you have one close by as this shopping behaviour can have positive impacts on our health, community, economy, and the environment...

Buying fruits, vegetables, oils, meats, breads, or other glorious goodies from a farmers market, often means you're buying directly from the food grower or producer, which supports local businesses and cuts out the middleman.

The food has often travelled less distance (so has lower food miles) and is often not pre-wrapped in plastic, like many fresh foods are in major supermarkets (for convenience, marketing and to preserve freshness). But don't worry if you don't have access to a farmers marker, the next best option is your local fruit and vegetable shop or greengrocer. Wherever you go, try to remember to minimise the plastic bags you use.

'Should I peel fruits and vegetables if they're not organic?'. This is a question the team at Eat Sustainably get asked often. Become a member to find out!
