Food labels in Australia now must contain the proportion (shown as a %) of the ingredients that are Australian or imported...
Try not to get swayed by 'Australian made' as many products are made with 100% imported ingredients (so have high food miles) but are packaged or processed in Australia. It's great to support Australian made products but the transportation of food (especially between continents) can considerably increase the environmental impact of the product.
When looking at the proportion (or %) of Australian ingredients, the rule of thumb is the higher the better, but Eat Sustainably recommends products have at least 80% Australian ingredients.
